GVEA Power Project

Experience

Golden Valley Electric Association (GVEA) contracted NANA Worley to provide conceptual design, preliminary design and owner’s engineer services for a new power plant. The project provided an installed capacity of 60 Megawatts, consisting of a GE LM6000 gas turbine/generator set matched with a heat recovery steam generator and steam turbine generator. The facility was designed with provisions for a second turbine/generator set, thus providing an ultimate capacity of 120 MW.

NANA Worley’s work included:

  • Conceptual study including evaluating different options for providing additional power generation, performing conceptual heat and mass balance studies on different fuel types, and completing an economic analysis of the fuel and turbine types
  • Preliminary engineering of the generation facility and develop a +/-30% TIC estimate
  • Develop a design/build bid package and assist with the technical bid evaluation

The power plant has been finished and currently runs on naphtha fuel from the Trans Alaska Pipeline.
